Another Chuck Charles? WTF?!
I Was Here First

Posted by Charlie Recksieck on 2025-11-04
I've been recording and performing under the name Chuck Charles for a while now. Beginning in the mid 2000’s I was performing as Chuck Charles and the first official release was the Fleetwood Mac "Never Going Back Again" cover in 2015.

Not because I need a stage name but really because it's easy to mispronounce or misspell my real last name, Recksieck.

Another Chuck Charles?

But what the hell is this? Another recording artist under the name Chuck Charles?

Not to be catty but at first glance it sounds like Lou Reed rapping over a Hallmark Movie soundtrack.

What Are The Rules

Bands really should do due diligence when picking a band name to avoid legal trouble, confusion, or branding issues. There was/is enough of a Chuck Charles footprint from me visible on the web or in music apps that this shouldn't have been an issue.

When Spud Davenport and I formed our side project Leaders In The Clubhouse, at first we wanted to be named the Mutual Admiration Society or when we in The Water Spots first played gigs we wanted to be "Tongue & Groove" but some German techno duo had gotten there first. Fine. We moved on.

California King

I mean, as The Bigfellas we recorded and released our song "California King" in 2008 a full two years before Rihanna did "California King Bed" in 2010. Did she steal it from us? Of course not.

Watch This Space

We'll keep an eye on them if they develop further. Right now it's not like there's a huge trademark to defend or much confusion. The imposter/newer Chuck Charles doesn't have big YouTube numbers and a Google search of him/them with a song title of theirs yields nothing right now, so it's not a big deal. But we'd better keep an eye on this.
